Amazon has announced the availability of its EC2 I4i instances in additional regions, specifically the Middle East (UAE) and Asia Pacific (Jakarta, Hyderabad). These storage-optimized instances are powered by 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, known as Ice Lake, and utilize AWS Nitro NVMe SSDs to deliver local storage performance.
The primary application for these I4i instances is databases that require low latency local NVMe storage to meet specific service level agreements (SLAs). They are suitable for a range of database types including MySQL, Oracle DB, Microsoft SQL Server, and various NoSQL databases like MongoDB, Couchbase, Aerospike, and Redis.
I4i instances come in eight different sizes: large, xlarge, 2xlarge, 4xlarge, 8xlarge, 16xlarge, 32xlarge, and metal, providing flexibility for different storage and processing needs.
The recent expansion means that I4i instances are now accessible in several AWS Regions including US East (Ohio, N. Virginia), US West (N. California, Oregon), Canada (Central), Europe (Ireland, Frankfurt, London, Milan, Paris, Stockholm), Asia Pacific (Hong Kong, Melbourne, Mumbai, Osaka, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Jakarta, Hyderabad), Middle East (Bahrain, UAE), South America (São Paulo), AWS GovCloud (US-West, US-East), and Africa (Cape Town).
Customers located in these regions have the option to purchase the I4i instances through various plans such as Savings Plans, Reserved, On-Demand, and Spot instances. This expansion provides more accessibility to storage-optimized solutions for database management within the specified regions.
