Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) has recently enhanced its performance capabilities by delivering a 40% increase in read Input/Output Operations Per Second (IOPS) per file system. This improvement is particularly beneficial for handling data-intensive file workloads on AWS.
Amazon EFS is known for providing serverless and fully elastic file storage, simplifying the process of setting up and managing file workloads in the cloud. Prior to this update, Amazon EFS supported up to 250,000 read IOPS for frequently accessed data and metadata. For other data and metadata, the limit was 65,000 read IOPS. With the latest launch, Amazon EFS has increased its support to up to 90,000 read IOPS for the latter category, marking a significant 40% improvement from the previous limit of 65,000.
This enhancement means that customers can now utilize Amazon EFS for a wider range of IOPS-intensive and read-heavy workloads. These include applications such as machine learning research, content delivery, and big data processing, which typically require high levels of read IOPS.
The increased IOPS limits are immediately available to Amazon EFS file systems using Elastic Throughput. This update is applicable across all commercial AWS Regions as well as the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.
