Amazon Web Services, more popularly known as AWS, is currently the world’s leading cloud service provider. At the time of writing, AWS has 27 launched zones with a total of 87 availability zones and over 410 points of presence. It serves 245 countries and territories while providing 115 direct connect locations. Offering over 200 fully featured services, there’s a good chance AWS can and will meet the cloud storage needs for your business.
A Leader in the Industry

In Gartner’s 2021 Magic Quadrant for Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Services report, AWS was named a leader in the industry, noting engineering supply chain, large financial commitments, and innovation leader as strengths. Under cautions, challenging renewals, offering complexity, and bare-bones offerings were mentioned.
The report detailed the company’s investments in AWS-designed silicon, which gives AWS long-term supply chain and engineering advantages when compared to other providers in the industry. AWS-designed CPUs offer better price and performance relative to x86 counterparts for certain workloads, said Gartner. AWS also outperforms the market when it comes to the size and frequency of large financial commitments. Lastly, Gartner mentioned that AWS often sets the pace for innovation in the market.
The technological research and consulting firm had dozens of clients across multiple regions report unexpected pressure from AWS sales to increase annual spend commitments by 20% in order to renew existing contracts. Another caution for Amazon AWS is how complicated it can get while shopping through its services. As a result, many businesses require third-party assistance, like a managed service provider. Finally, Gartner also noted that AWS’s new services “are often not ready for meaningful enterprise consumption for prolonged periods of time because these bare-bones offerings are matured in public.”
