AWS DataSync has launched in the AWS Middle East (UAE) Region, making it the 25th region where the service is now available. AWS DataSync is designed to simplify, automate, and accelerate the copying of large amounts of data between on-premises storage, edge locations, other clouds, or between AWS Storage services. The secure, online service supports the ability to copy data between:
- Network File System (NFS) shares
- Service Message Block (SMB) shares
- Hadoop Distributed File Systems (HDFS),
- Self-managed object storage
- AWS Snowcone
- Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) buckets
- Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS) file systems
- Amazon FSx for Windows File Server file systems
- Amazon FSx for Lustre file systems
- Amazon FSz for OpenZFS file systems
- Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP file systems
DataSync is valuable when users need to quickly move file and object data to AWS, or to securely replicate data into more affordable AWS storage services. Another use case for DataSync is to archive cold data, helping reduce on-premises storage costs. It’s also advantageous for businesses that engage in hybrid workflows, allowing users to seamlessly move data between on-premises systems and AWS.
AWS DataSync validates all data byte-for-byte throughout the transfer process and the service supports encryption in-transit and at-rest.
