Google Cloud Next ’22 is taking place October 11 to October 13, and it’s the company’s flagship event where it discusses the current state of its cloud services and what it has in store for the future. Today, Sachin Gupta, Vice President and GM, Infrastructure, confirmed new Google Cloud regions in five more countries: Austria, Greece, Norway, South Africa, and Sweden — we previously covered the announcement for Greece and South Africa.
Currently, Google Cloud’s global network consists of 35 regions, 106 zones, 173 network edge locations, and 22 subsea cables, all of which serve customers in over 200 countries and territories. The addition of more regions in the aforementioned five countries joins other regions that have also been recently announced or opened, including Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Thailand, Milan (Italy), Paris (France), Madrid (Spain), Columbus (Ohio, U.S.) and Dallas (Texas, U.S.).
These expansions of additional Google Cloud regions also help contribute to local economic and job growth. When Google Cloud opens its first cloud region in Greece, it expects to create 20,000 jobs by 2030. The company announced today that the nine new regions it has announced in 2022 are expected to collectively contribute a cumulative 40.2 billion USD to GDP by 2030, while supporting the creation of over 314,400 jobs in that year. This is based on preliminary estimates from AlphaBeta Economics, commissioned by Google.
- Asia and the Pacific: Three Google Cloud regions announced this year; contribute an estimated $10 billion USD to APAC’s GDP by 2030; support the creation of 86,500 jobs in 2030.
- Europe, the Middle East, and Africa: Five cloud regions announced this year; contribute an estimated cumulative $18.9 billion USD to EMEA’s GDP by 2030; support the creation of over 110,500 jobs in 2030.
- Latin America: New cloud region announced in Mexico this year; contribute a cumulative $11.2 billion USD to Mexico’s GDP by 2030; support the creation of over 117,000 jobs in 2030.
