Microsoft Azure Boosts Storage with New Features

Microsoft Azure has recently made two important updates to its cloud storage offerings. Azure Archive Storage is now available in Sweden Central, and Azure Managed Lustre has officially launched its general availability.

Azure Archive Storage, a service providing a secure, cost-effective solution for storing infrequently accessed data, has expanded its availability to include the Sweden Central region. This service is particularly useful for backup and archival storage needs. With this expansion, organizations in Sweden Central can now take advantage of this low-cost data retention solution.

In other news, Azure Managed Lustre has moved from preview to general availability. This managed file system is designed specifically for High Performance Computing (HPC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads. It operates on a pay-as-you-go model, offering high-performance distributed parallel file system capabilities with storage bandwidth in the hundreds of GBps range and solid-state disk latency.

Key benefits of Azure Managed Lustre include a customizable Lustre file system that can be deployed on-demand within minutes and high throughput to support computationally intensive workloads. It integrates easily with other Azure services such as Azure HPC Compute, Azure Kubernetes Service, and Azure Machine Learning. The pay-as-you-go model also enables organizations to save on maintenance and infrastructure setup costs.

These developments enhance Azure’s cloud storage capabilities, allowing for more flexibility and efficient resource management for organizations. As cloud storage continues to evolve, offerings like Azure Archive Storage and Azure Managed Lustre exemplify how cloud services are continually improving to meet diverse storage requirements.
